Old £5 Use By deadline 5 May 2017
On 5th May this year £5 paper notes will cease to be legal tender.
From that date on retailers will be within their rights to refuse them, although some may still accept them.
High street banks may also refuse to exchange the notes after the cut off. But don't panic! If you've got stacks of old £5 notes to get through, you can exchange them at the Bank of England anytime.
