Preventing hair discrimination in schoolsYoung people should be able to thrive in school, without fear of being discriminated against because of their hair. We've published resources which will help schools end hair discrimination and be inclusive places for all. Good practice example – disability, race and religion or belief A school has a general (blanket) rule of no headgear on school premises. This could indirectly discriminate against pupils on a number of different grounds, such as: disability (for example, pupils undergoing cancer treatment who wear wigs, scarves or hats) religion or belief (for example, for Muslim pupils who cover their hair or Sikh pupils who wear a turban) race (for example, for Black pupils or pupils with a mixed ethnic background who wear African heritage head wraps). The school amended its policy to include exceptions on the grounds of disability, race or religion or belief. Find ot more at Preventing hair discrimination in schoolsEHRC
