Google hit with £44m GDPR fine over ads (21 Jan 2019) Just yesterday I spoke to Google to stop annoying pop-ups on my S8+ which I never had before. I was aware of the GPDR to follow by Google changing its privacy policy to 'comply' with them. I made them aware that this was the possible cause as now the pop-ups fill the full screen. I also know that some apps from their store contains ads, but not the paid ones, which also result in this issue. Everything is installed from their Google Play store which has an added Play Protect feature. I also a paid security app that should deal with any malware. I advised them that I failed to understand why this has suddenly happened and to rid of it. I was sent a lengthy troubleshooting email. The adviser and the email suggested not closing the window but to check which app is causing this to eliminate each. Failing a lot of steps, to root reset my phone as a last resort. I was not happy with that. Today I read this (see below) which did not surprise me at all. Google has been fined 50 million euros (£44m) by the French data regulator CNIL, for a breach of the EU's data protection rules. CNIL said it had levied the record fine for "lack of transparency, inadequate information and lack of valid consent regarding ads personalisation". The regulator said it judged that people were "not sufficiently informed" about how Google collected data to personalise advertising. www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-46944696?fbclid=IwAR1D7l2LSdTL8v31yJlf7-NlD9WMMVFo8VEUn1TgP8vPwf2IbaHa-I8r5Fk
