The Indian police officer who saved Sikhs during the 1984 riots (1 Nov 2017) Nearly 3,000 members of India's Sikh community were massacred after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards on 31 October 1984. The capital Delhi was among the worst affected. Maxwell Pereira was one of the few officers who took action against the mobs in the absence of clear orders.
